The Monroe-West Monroe Convention and Visitors Bureau is excited to welcome the World Horseshoe Pitching Tournament on July 13-25, 2020. The Monroe Civic Center will hold the two-week event with players from across the globe throwing shoes in this tournament.

ABOUT THE VENUE

The Monroe Civic Center is the largest event facility in Northeast Louisiana and is fully air-conditioned. The horseshoe pits will be housed in the Arena (32 courts; 46,025 sq. ft.) and the Conference Hall (14 courts; 14,000 sq. ft.). These areas are entirely indoors and are connected. Kentucky Blue Clay will be used. On top of the usual concession stand options, this facility offers Louisiana fare—like jambalaya and gumbo. Located directly off Interstate 20, this location is convenient to get to from area hotels, RV parks, restaurants, and attractions.

PLAN YOUR STAY

Fairfield Inn & Suites is our host hotel. It’s in West Monroe approximately 5 miles away from the Monroe Civic Center. Located directly off the interstate, it is a 9-minute drive to the venue. Near this hotel are the Hampton Inn, Hilton Garden Inn, Home 2 Suites by Hilton, Holiday Inn Express, LaQuinta Inn, and Comfort Inn. Other great hotel options include the Courtyard by Marriott, Towne Place Suites, WoodSpring Suites, and Wingate Hotel & Suites, just to name a few.

The Monroe Civic Center has 36 RV hook-up locations at a nightly rate of $25. Nearby are the Ouachita RV Park, Pavilion RV Park, Bayou D’Arbonne Camping Park, and the Ike Hamilton Expo Center.

THINGS TO DO

With plenty of places to play, Monroe-West Monroe always has something to do. Bring the kids to Excalibur Family Fun Center, Spartan Adventure Park, Altitude Trampoline Park, Skatetown, Bayou Bowl, Tilt Studio Arcade, or the Northeast Louisiana Children’s Museum. For the adults, visit Landry Vineyards, Flying Tiger Brewery, the Chennault Aviation and Military Museum, Antique Alley in Downtown West Monroe, or the Biedenharn Museum and Gardens. Feeling outdoorsy? Visit Kiroli Park for nature walks and Black Bayou Lake National Wildlife Refuge for kayaking. For great bar options, check out Brass Monkey, Enoch’s Irish Pub, Hooligans Bar and Arcade, and The Eli at Restaurant Cotton. And don’t forget to stop by the Duck Commander Warehouse for souvenirs from everyone’s favorite duck-call family.

PLACES TO EAT

Have a food adventure by trying one of over 100 local restaurants in our area. Monroe’s very own Food Network Star Chef Cory Bahr shares his fresh, locally sourced creations at Parish Restaurant. Demolish a pile of the seafood nachos at Trapp’s, slurp oysters and Moscow mules at Planter’s Gastropub, try the wings at Miro’s, or enjoy delectable shrimp dishes at Warehouse No. 1. All four of these restaurants feature a stunning view of the Ouachita River. We highly recommend the sunsets. Other great local spots are Johnny’s Pizza House, Fieldhouse, Roma’s Italian Bistro, Javi P’s, 2Dudes Brew and Que, and Waterfront Grill. For sweet treats, try Miss Kay’s Sweets & Eats, Butter A Louisiana Bakery, or The Creamery. For a cup of coffee, visit Corner Coffeehouse, Dreux Coffee, The Coffee Bean, Bayou Brew, or Standard Coffee Co. And many more!
