Alex Temblador graduated from the University of Louisiana at Monroe in 2011 and went on to receive her MFA in Creative Writing and later, publish her first novel, Secrets of the Casa Rosada. Alex Temblador will be reading from her award-winning novel and participating in a Q&A at ULM on March 14 at 7 p.m. in Hemphill Bldg 134 (the auditorium). Books will be available for sale and the event is free.
Secrets of the Casa Rosada follows Martha, a 16-year-old girl who is abandoned by her mother with her grandmother in Laredo, Texas, in 1990. Martha must navigate a new world that's vibrant with the Mexican American culture, deal with a bully at school, and become accustomed to her tough-as-nails Abuela, a famed curandera (Mexican folk healer), all the while trying to figure out where her mom went and what secrets her family is keeping from her.
Alex Temblador is a freelance travel writer and author of Secrets of the Casa Rosada. Her book has won the 2019 NACCS Young Adult Award and was included in Kirkus Reviews' Best of YA Books of 2018.
