On Saturday, May 18, Poverty Point World Heritage Site is hosting a “Hunter Gatherer for a Day” event to celebrate National Kids to Park Day. Visitors, especially younger ones, are welcome to join a ranger-guided hike that begins at 9:45 a.m. Following the hike, guests can take part in an atlatl demonstration at 11:30 a.m., then learn about the use of earth ovens at 1:30 p.m. All activities focus on learning about the ancient hunter gatherer culture that flourished at Poverty Point approximately 3,500 years ago. Visitors are welcome – and encouraged – to bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the full day of activities. The site also offers a Junior Ranger program that can be completed to earn a Junior Ranger badge, and learn more about the site at your own pace!
