What started as a simple idea by a past board member of the Northeast Louisiana Children’s Museum has turned into a beloved tradition for many. Santa’s Christmas Village is a holiday wonderland with snow shows, arts and crafts, Mount Sneaux - a giant slide, holiday concerts and movies, and well, of course, Santa himself.
Joyful laughter and smiles from ear to ear can be found each day at Santa’s Christmas Village. Melissa Saye, Director of the Northeast Louisiana Children’s Museum says you can see these smiles when it’s time for a “snow shower.” The snow shower happens once every hour and she says, “it’s truly magical to see the joy on the faces of the children while little white pieces of confetti float down from the air!”
Chances are if you ask a local if they’ve been to Santa’s Christmas Village, they will answer with “every year.” For many, this has become a family tradition for generations. In fact, Melissa mentioned that she knows many parents that visited the museum when they were children. Melissa’s hope is that each year as families decorate their trees, they will pull out ornaments made at Santa’s Christmas Village and smile with memories.
Each year, the museum works to create an even more unforgettable experience. In the last few years, a nightly light and music show, Breakfast with Santa, a Gingerbread Workshop, and Cocoa with the Grinch have been added to the fun. This year's additions include a Meet and Greet with the local author of the book, The Cajun Night Before Christmas, and well, perhaps another surprise or two.
Make it a December to remember and head to Santa’s Christmas Village. You are sure to leave with memories that you’ll be sharing for years to come.
